Prince George's County Police confirmed Friday morning that Marcus Webb, a 34-year-old HVAC technician residing on Marlboro Pike in Forestville, has been reported missing — and that his disappearance bears striking similarities to four prior cases that have rattled the county since February.
Webb's sister, Tamara Webb, told The Pager she last spoke with her brother Thursday afternoon. "He texted me around 3 p.m. saying a package had shown up. He didn't order anything. He thought it was a mix-up," she said. By 9 p.m., he was not answering calls. By midnight, she filed a report.
A neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said she watched from her porch as an unmarked gray cargo van idled on the street while a courier in dark clothing left a sealed brown box on Webb's doorstep. "There was no label I could read," she said. "No logo, no delivery service markings. Just a plain box."
The same description — a plain, unmarked brown package delivered by an unidentified courier — has been reported in all five disappearances. The first involved Denise Hargrove, 41, of Seat Pleasant, who vanished February 14th. Over the following ten weeks, three more residents disappeared in Capitol Heights, Landover, and Oxon Hill, each after neighbors or family members reported an unusual package delivery.
PGPD spokesperson Lt. Yolanda Chambers told reporters at a Friday morning briefing that the FBI's Baltimore Field Office has formally opened a parallel investigation. "We are treating these as connected incidents," Lt. Chambers said. "Anyone who receives a package they did not order should not open it and should contact 911 immediately."
The contents of the packages — if any were recovered — have not been disclosed by investigators. A source within the department, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that at least one package was retrieved intact from the Oxon Hill scene but declined to describe its contents, citing the ongoing investigation.
Community anxiety has reached a fever pitch, with neighborhood Facebook groups and NextDoor threads flooded with residents reporting suspicious vehicles and unfamiliar delivery personnel. County Executive Sheila Briscoe is expected to hold an emergency press conference Thursday at 9 a.m. at the county administration building in Upper Marlboro.
